It sure does.
I want this thing:

It looks like its main reason for existing is to compete with the upcoming Nintendo DS this holiday season (PSTwo comes out Nov. 1 for $99-150, and the NDS comes out Nov. 21 for $150), which is fine, as of right now I'd much rather have one of these guys than a DS if they're the same price. I mean, I have a PDA and I have a gameboy... They aren't really devices that I want combined barring any substantially amazing software. It's not like I'm hoping for any ports of N64 games (as we all were hoping for SNES ports to the GBA), since there're only 2 N64 games that I want that I don't have: Sin and Punishment (a Japangame) and Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh (a Japangame that was later ported to Dreamcast).
Meanwhile, my PS2 is starting to get Disc Read Errors 3/4 times I boot it, so I'll be very pleased to keep my old box around for the sole purpose of imports and... uhhh... DVD-Rs. Couple in the fact that this thing comes with the network adapter pre-installed and I'm going to need to hook it up.

First of all... GODDAMMIT I WAS ABOUT TO POST THAT PICTURE... Second: Does anyone know if the Nintendo DS will be capable of? I've hear bluetooth, and it looks snazzy, but from my understanding it is being marketed towards older teens and younger adults. Does that mean we are going to see applications as opposed to just game? Will I be able to challenge Jack to Pokiduel, then get a reminder that I have a meeting and look up the phone number of the person who I am supposed to meet and tell them I can't make it, that my grandmother died or something, so I can continue to Pokiduel Jack? I want a for reals PDA that can play awesome Zelda games. Give it to me, Nintento, and give it to me before you give it to the Japs (which is the best part of the deal). Here's some of the stuff that I know about the DS: Yes, we will see applications for it, but probably substantially 'kiddier' ones. For instance, it comes bundled with Pictochat, a chat program that is similar to iSketch. It will be $150 on Nov. 21 in the US, and then a few weeks later in Japan (the first Nintendo console to launch here first). It doesn't use bluetooth, it uses its own radio wave connection that's touted to be as strong as the wavebird (so, roughly 200 feet of decent range). It will apparently have some sort of alert system when other DSes are detected within its range, so you can use it to challenge people. It has a port on the back for playing GBA games, which is super sexy, since my GBA is starting to wear out (after it got rained on a few weeks ago). Both screens have the same lights as the GBA-SP, and they're only a few centimeters different in size (the DS screens are slightly smaller). No games have been officially announced for the system that I know of, but the Metroid Prime: Hunters game is supposed to be damn decent. For the complete list of games that are in development, check out http://www.nintendo.com/ds/software.jsp . Keep in mind, though, that any of these titles can and may be cancelled before they even really begin development. I guess Juls will know more when he starts work at EA in a week or so, but we won't be legally allowed to ask him about it. Posted by Ben at September 21, 2004 04:32 PM |

Nintendo: Give me non-gaming applications. Really. I wants. Non-gaming applications would allow me to have an excuse for bringing you great product to places I normally wouldn't be allowed to bring it. I would just say "I'm using it to take notes" and then play Metroid. Nintendo, give me the power. Remember that, Nintendo? Remember all your promises of Nintendo Power? Well I need it now, more than ever. Make non-gaming applications so I use your product like I've never used a product of your's before. You and me, Nintendo. We've had some good times, and some bad. You were my second gaming love, only to the Atari, but my truest. Let me let you back into my life. Posted by Will at September 21, 2004 05:10 PM |
